PRACTICE AREAS

The essence of the firm’s practice is advocacy, whether at trial or before an appellate court, whether negotiating a settlement or presenting a client’s perspective to an investigative agency. The firm does not limit itself to any particular area of litigation; our experience has been that good advocates can effectively represent their clients in a broad range of contexts. Indeed, a varied litigation background can often yield fresh insights in any individual case.

There are practice areas, however, where lawyers in the firm have developed particular knowledge and experience by virtue of the cases the firm has handled. These include representation of corporations and individuals in federal and state courts in commercial and business litigation, including contract disputes, environmental claims, insurance coverage disputes, shareholder class action and derivative suits, qui tam and RICO claims, and fiduciary litigation. The firm also has extensive experience in professional liability defense by virtue of its representation of many prominent lawyers and law firms as well as the faculty of a nationally renowned medical school.

To illustrate the unusual breadth of the firm’s experience, it has represented clients in investigations and litigation involving Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and the National Hockey League. It has also represented a university in defense of its resolution of sexual assault complaints under its student judicial code.

More information about the firm’s experience in particular practice areas can be found under the headings below.
